Mom, Dad and the Crane Colts

The two adult Sandhill Cranes just hatched out two Colts on the Modoc NWR. What I find amazing is that these two little Colts will be the same size as their parents in 90 days. One of the parents is banded and was itself hatched on the Modoc Refuge.

Day Old Sandhill Crane

This baby Sandhill Crane, called a Colt, is only a day old. What is amazing is that this little guy will grow to full size in 90 days. This was photographed at the Modoc NWR.
